The intention of this piece was to design an alternative cover to the famous novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and working to match the text with the tone of the illustration. I focused on a grim scene with a more sketchy / stroke-based style.

The character references the lead singer of the group, with his hair transforming into pages out of storybooks, as their music is heavily based on classic novels such as Moby Dick and The Three Musketeers.

Concept designs based on the novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, depicting the primary characters of Alice and the Queen of Hearts if the story were much darker and targeted toward an older audience. Alice is themed around being an asylum patient, while the Queen is themed around common childhood toys such as a stitched up doll and a Jack-in-the-Box.

Additional inspiration was drawn from the video game American McGee's Alice.
